Drug side effects or important things Flashcards
Lorazepam
Lethargy, dizzy, drowsy, falls.
Interacts with other CNS depressants
Pantoprazole
Assess for epigastric, abnormal pain, frank/occult blood in stool/emesis, risk for C.Diff,
Increased bleeding risk with Warfarin.
Sodium Citrate
Diarrhea, fluid overload, hypernatremia, metabolic acidosis, antagonizes antiHTN
ONLY ONE DOSE CAN CAUSE METAB ALKALOSIS
nitrous oxide
Nausea.
Hypotension. Hypoxemia, Bradycardia, Decreased CO, N/V, Chest pain & STROKE.
**WEAK ANESTHETICS & POOR RELAXANT.
**Needs to be used with other meds that are longer acting, its mostly just good for analgesia.
***Not CNS toxic & does not cause cardio or resp depression
Isoflurane
*muscle relaxants are potentiated
can CAUSE SEVERE RESP DISTRESS
Hypotension, transiet tachycardia, malignant hyperthermia
Week analgesia (need morphine)
Propofol
NO ANALGESIC PROPERTIES
Apnea, bradycardia, hypotension, burning, spinning, pain, CNS depress. Infusion syndrome.
Lidocaine
Confusion, drowsiness, stinging.
Assess for arrhythmia, resp distress from spinal/ epidural, bradycardia, CNS depress
Succinylcholine
Apnea, bronchospasm, bradycardia, arrhythmia, hypotension, malignant hyperthermia
- doesnt change consciousness level
- Can increase K+
Midazalam
Used with epidurals or short acting procedures amnesia depresses CNS Sedation & LOC Bp, Pulse, Resp
