Drug Receptor Interaction Flashcards
1
Q
Define Agonist, Antagonist, Potency, Affinity, Efficacy, Full agonist, Partial agonist, Selectivity
A
Look at lecture - pretty straight forward
2
Q
Describe the drug target sites
A
- Receptors :
- Ion channels
- Transport system
- Enzymes
LOOK AT LECTURE NOTES FOR EXAMPLES
3
Q
Describe the structure activity relationship and the graph
A
Emphasises the relationship between the structure of the drug and its activity.

4
Q
Explain the difference between competitive and irreversible antagonists
A
- Competitive: binds to same site so by increasing agonist you reduce the effect of the antagonist (Eg Atropine and propanalol)
- Irreversible: tightly bound to same sight or not the same (covalently) (Eg hexamethanium blocks nicotine ion channel)
