SSRI
Histamine (H1) receptor agonist.
Hydroxyzine
Stimulates alpha-2 adrenergic receptors.
XR Clonidine, XR Guanfacine
Na+ channel blocker. Inhibits glutamate.
Lamotrigine
[Anticonvulsant]
Opens chloride channels. Inhibits GABA.
Valproic Acid/Valproate
[Anticonvulsant]
Partial opioid agonist.
Buprenorphine
Partial agonist of nicotinic receptor. Decreases withdrawal and interferes w/ reward.
Varenicline (Chantix)
L.A. opioid agonist.
Methadone
Blocks Dopamine release, antagonizes Mu receptor, decreases craving and reward. Opioid antagonist– completely blocks effects.
Naltrexone
Enhance GABA at receptor.
Benzodiazepines
Partial agonist 5-HT.
Vilazadone/Vortioxetine

Blocks Dopamine and NE reuptake. Antagonizes nicotinic receptor.
NE/Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor (NDRI)
Bupropion
Break down Serotonin and NE and Dopamine. Increases amt. of 5-HT, NE, and DA.
MAOI (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors)
Blocks catecholamine reuptake. NE, Dopamine; increases intrasynaptic levels.
Methylphenidate
Blocks catecholamine reuptake. NE, Dopamine; increases intrasynaptic levels. Increases Dopamine release.
Amphetamines
Inhibits kindling and repetitive firing of APs by inactivating Na+ channels.
Carbamazepine
[Anticonvulsant]
Inhibits adenylate cyclase enzyme.
Lithium
[Mood Stabilizer]
Dopamine and NE reuptake inhibitor. No blockade of cholinergic, histaminergic, and alpha-1 adrendergic receptors.
Bupropion
[Atypical Antidepressant]
Restores glutamate. Stops withdrawal S/S.
Acamprosate
S.A. opioid antagonist.
Naloxone
5HT-1a receptor agonist. Dopamine receptors.
Buspirone
Antagonize 5-HT.
Nefazadone/Trazodone
[Serotonin Modulators or Serotonin Antagonist/Reuptake Inhibitors (SARIs)]
Inhibits reuptake of 5-HT and NE.
TCA (Tricyclic Antidepressants)
Antagonizes alpha-2 and 5-HT-2 / 5-HT-3. Blocks presynaptic alpha-2 autoreceptors and heteroreceptors (= increases in NE and 5-HT, like SSRI). Potent 5-HT-2 and 5-HT-3 receptor blockade. Blocks muscarinic cholinergic, histamine-1, and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors.
