Analgesic Antipyretic
These analgesics are given for mild to moderate pain and may also be used as an antipyretic and/or inflammatory
Narcotic Analgestic
Given for acute pain. They may be habit forming in high doses over a prolonged period of time
Anti-inflammatory or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
These medications are used primarily for disorders of the joints. Primarily rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
Anticonvulsants
Given for the treatment of seizures
Antiparkinsons Agents
Used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. This is a chronic disease of the nervous system characterized by fine, slowly spreading tremor, muscle weakness and rigidity and a peculiar gait.
Anxiolytics
administered to relieve anxiety and tension
Antipsychotics
Used to refuse mental tension and anxiety related psychotic disorders
Antidepressants
Used to relieve depression
General Anaethetics
Produce unconsciousness with muscle relaxation and suppression of the reflexes
Local Anaesthetics
Produce loss of sensation in a limited area of the body by ‘deadening’ the nerves in that area
Epidural Anaesthestics
Injected into the lower back to produce anesthesia from the area of injection down
Glucocorticoid or Corticosteroids
Used to treat, for example, inflammatory conditions and severe allergic reactions
Oral Hypoglycemics
Drugs used to control hyperglycemia in stable of mild conditions of diabetes mellitus
Insulins
Insulin is necessary for metabolism of carbohydrates. In the relative or complete absence of insulin, an excess of sugar exists in the blood.
Bronchodilators
Open up constricted air passages. They act by dilating the bronchial tubes. They provide relief from brocho spasms associated with bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis
