What are the three principle mechanisms that can cause a decrease in cardiac output?

A
  1. Primary heart disease (structural or electrical)
  2. Reflex mediated bradycardia or hypotension
  3. Decrease in venous return due to blood loss or redistribution of blood volume (orthostatic hypotension)
