Dressings Flashcards
Wound dressing and care
Clean, remove dead skin, assess and dress wound
Transparent- protection, maintain moisture (op-site)
Hydrocolloids- low-mod exudate- absorbs mood exudate, moisten, protect- superficial/atrial thickness wounds- change 3-4 days (duoderm)
Impregnated no-adherent- soothes and protects, no exudate (adaptic)
Calcium alginates- moisten by interacting with exudate to form gelatinous mass, eliminate dead space, absorb- mod-high exudate but needing secondary dressing- change 2-4 days (kaltostat)
Polyurethane Foams- mod-high exudate and with hydrogel on full thickness, moisten (lyfoam)
Hydrogel- low exudate wounds or wounds with dry eschar (autolytic debridement)-liquefy necrotic tissue, rehydrate wound, fill dead space (hydrogel)
Antimicrobial if infection is suspected- absorbs, kills micro-organisms, moistens, protects (aticoat)
