drear nighted december (nature) Flashcards

1
Q

intro

A

Keats explores the happiness of nature in dark times. The first two stanza’s detail the bliss of the tree and the brook in their forgetfulness. The last stanza discusses wether or not humans can emulate this bliss by forgetting, realising this can’t be done as transient happiness also follows with pain. He also talks about numbing yourself with forgetfulness.

Q

analysis

A

Depressing, dull scene set from the plosives in drear-nighted. The ‘d’ sound elongates the word as well as the assonance (same sound/ syllables in nearby words) makes the sentence longer to read- highlighting length of winter/time.
