Drawings and Basic Circuits Flashcards
Are IEC and NEMA electrical symbols the same?
No, each institution uses differing symbols.
Which system uses vertical rungs in a ladder diagram?
IEC.
What are the four basic types of drawings?
Block;
Wiring;
Schematic;
Interconnection.
What are block diagrams typically used for?
To show conceptual relationships between components or systems.
What is a wiring diagram most useful for?
To determine physically how a device is wired.
What are schematic diagrams useful for?
To determine the correct sequence of operation in an electrical circuit.
Why are interconnection diagrams useful?
In a system with many components, often an engineer has determined exactly where each wire must go. This leaves little guesswork.
What is the “top” view in a pin out diagram?
Looking at where the wire terminals are located.
What are the three basic sections of a motor control circuit?
Stop;
Start;
Holding.
When a motor starter has more than one start/stop location, how must the buttons be wired?
Starts in parallel and stops in series.
What is affected if electrical interlocks are placed in the holding circuit?
The running of the motor.
What is affected if electrical interlocks are placed in the start circuit?
Only the starting of the motor.
What is affected if electrical interlocks are placed in the stop circuit?
The starting and stopping of the motor.
