Simple outline that defines an object
Gesture
Lou sketches subject matter, most commonly used for sketching/studying the human figure
Grid drawing
Using a grid as a method of creating the subject in direct proportion to the original
Drawing/sketching pencils
Defined by hardness or softness
H = Hard with lighter value; 6H is very light
B = soft with dark value; 6B is very dark
Tooth
The texture of your paper
Cast shadow
The shadow on the surface made by the object blocking the light
Highlight
The brightest value of an image; it’s the area of the subject directly illuminated by the light source
Half tones
The range of values in between the highlight and the core shadow
Reflected light
Indirect light reflected back on the object
Light source
The direction from which light emanates
