what is the definition of draping?
appropriately covering the patient’s body parts during PT encounters
what are the overall goals of draping?
maximize patient comfort and modesty while performing PT assessment or treatment
what does proper draping and patient comfort promote?
rapport and therapist-patient relationship
if you enter a patient’s room and see that they are covered with a blanket, what should you do before removing draping?
ask patient for permission to remove blanket/if they are wearing their “pajamas”

maintaining patient modesty

what kinds of things should the therapist do before intervention?
determine if patient is wearing appropriate clothing
provide private space/encourage patient to don appropriate clothing independently
instruct which areas need to be exposed for treatment (promote minimal exposure)
ask if they need help and provide help from clinic staff of same gender
what gowns are best for the patient to be wearing?
gowns with buttons/snaps to help expose proper regions
what is the purpose of draping with linens?
enhances principles of minimal exposure and covers all the areas not being treated/examined
what is the proper technique of layering towels/sheets?
covers body parts before removal of clothing
fold one layer back for partial exposure
edges of towels are tucked into adjacent patient clothing
