Body language
Communicates the emotions or feelings of the characters
Facial expressions, gestures, stamping feet, shaking fist
Costume
Clothing can communicate the personality, ethnicity or social class of the character or the historical period of the play
Props/set
Tells the audience where the action is taking place can be literal or metaphorically related to the action in the Play
Backdrops, items, furniture, decorations
Lighting
Can create a specific mood/atmosphere or indicate the time of the action in the Play
Spotlight, brightness, colour
Sound effects
Can convey other emotions or add to the scene can make the scene more dramatic or engaging for the audience
Dialogue
Tells the story is expressed through oral techniques
Character
Very important
The actor must “be” the character and how they pertain the character impacts the audience perception of that character
