What are dramatic elements?
Dramatic elements are essential features of every performance. Actors manipulate dramatic elements to shape and enhance meaning.
What is the dramatic element of climax?
The peak of the performance/most exciting part. Everything that has happens before this has been leading up to the climax. It is the most significant moment of tension in a drama and often occurred towards the end of the plot but multiple climaxes can occur.
Usually the end of drama performances ends in the unravels after the climax but these performances can also finish with a climactic moment to leave the audience on edge and on a cliff hanger.
What is the dramatic element of conflict?
Conflict occurs when a character cannot achieve and object due to an obstacle, this obstacle can be between characters, can be inner conflict and conflict with the environment too. So basically a conflict is a problem.
What is the dramatic element of Contrast?
Contrast presents dissimilar or opposite in order to highlighter emphasise difference. Contrast can be explored in many ways and can include contrasting characters, settings, themes, elements, stagecraft and performance styles.
The difference between elements in a production. Sad vs Happy (moods), Loud vs Quiet (scenes), Evil vs Angelic (characters)
What is the dramatic element of mood?
Mood is the overall feeling or emotion that a performance can evoke, This may be achieved through manipulation of acting, conventions or stagecraft.
The feel/atmosphere created in a performance. Sound and lighting greatly enhance this.
What is the dramatic element of rhythm?
The regular pattern of sounds, words or actions. Performances can also have their own rhythm that can be influenced by the emotional nature of the plot, the lace of line delivery, the pace of scene transitions and the length of those scenes and the dialogues within them.
The pace of the action occurring within a performance (scenes/characters)
What is the dramatic element of sound?
Is created by the performer through the possible use of voice, body percussion, and objects to create an effect in performance and enhance meaning. Sound may include silence or the deliberate absence of sound.
It is sound produced by an actor. eg, meow, creaky door and knocking etc.
(not to be mistaken with the stagecraft element of sound)
What is the dramatic element of space?
Involves the way the actors use the performance area to communicate meaning, to define settings, to represent status and to create actor-audience relationships. This may be achieved through the use of levels, proximity and depth, The use of space may be symbolic.
The ways in which the performance space is utilised (how they use the space).
What so the dramatic element of symbol?
Something we see that represents something else or has a deeper meaning which the audience can easily register instantly. This can be do e with costume, gestures and of course objects.
What is the dramatic element of tension?
Is the suspense that holds an audiences attention as a performance unfolds. The release of tension can have a comic or dramatic effect.
The anticipation felt by the audience created through the performance caused with conflicts, scary movies (waiting for jump scares) etc.
