Soliloquy
A speech that a character makes, alone on stage, and expresses their thoughts to the audience
Monologue
A long speech delivered by a single character in a play or film
Shakerpearean Sonnet
A 14 line poem + Couplet at the end
iamb
a metrical unit consisting of two syllables where an initial unstressed syllable is followed by a stressed syllable. For example, the words amuse (a-MUSE), portray (por-TRAY), delight (de-LIGHT), and return (re-TURN)
iambic pentameter
a line of verse composed of ten syllables arranged in five metrical feet (iambs),
Meter/Metrical Feet
repeated sequences of meter composed of two or more accented or unaccented syllables.
Turn (in drama)
When a change in an event happens suddenly and dramitcally
Interlude
A pause in something, such as a play
Miracle Plays
A real or fictional account on the miracles, life, or martyrdom of a saint
Mystery Plays
Based on stories from the Bible
Morality Play
Allegorical plays that personified the moral value/principles and abstract ideas to teach moral lessons
Blank Verse
A verse that does not contain a rhyme and it almost always uses a iambic meter
Free Verse
A verse that does not contain a rhyme or have a regular vibe
Tragedy (in drama)
A play or form of drama that is serious and deals with the downfall of a noble or heroic character
Tragic Flaw
An error of flaw in the tragic hero that leads to his/her downfall
Comedy (in drama)
A play or drama that ends with a happy ending (light or humorous)
