Apron
Anywhere on stage that is in front of the red curtain
Legs?
The narrow curtains in the wings that hide the actors from the audience.
Flats?
A frame covered in cloth or thin plywood to give the effect of buildings or a background when painted
Black traveler?
The back curtain
Tableau?
When actors show a living picture without motion or talking.
Technique = expressions, levels, costumes/props, depth, action
Mime
Acting out a story with no talking just body motions. originated in Ancient Greece is the style pantomime.
Techniques = exaggerated expression, use of space, costumes/props, simplify.
Improvisation
Unscripted drama that is shaped and rehearsed.
Techniques = don’t deny belief, commit, deliver clear oral and physical communication,aware of what is, don’t rush
Voice
Appropriate breathing, posture, diction, projection, and rhythm techniques to make communication onstage audible,understandable and melodious.
Techniques = inflection,volume, rhythm, articulation.
Storytelling
Oral narrative tradition usually told by a single story teller sharing or re-telling an experience, story includes beginning, middle, and end.
Monologue
One person speaking.reveals something deeper about their character.
Techniques = expression, tempo, focal point, character wants, beats, diction.
Blocking
Any and all placements or movements of an actor
Cheating
Placing body to stay visible to audience.
Beat
A verbal or thought pause, tempo, or tone change, motivation alteration, or anything that would alter the flow of dialogue or theme. Identify each beat on sheet by using a / on monologue sheet.
Cue
Anything to signal an actor or stage technician that the next line or stage function is about to occur
Wings
Off stage areas on the left or right of the stage.
