I live in East Tennessee (Johnson City) with my Husband and dog Rocky. I work as a PTA in the school system and can’t wait to further my knowledge in becoming a Physical Therapist!
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, as well as sports and the outdoors. I’m an amateur photographer and love the challenge of new photoshoots and subjects. In my spare time I also play the Tenor Saxophone, just for fun. I was a high school and collegiate swimmer, and I still enjoy swimming for exercise. Finally, I love hiking, biking, kayaking, and traveling when we can. I look forward to getting to know you all, class of 2021!

I currently work as a PTA in an outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine clinic. My heart lies with Sports Medicine patients and athletes, however I am excited to see how I grow and develop throughout the next two years in the South College DPT Program. Outside of work I enjoy reading, hanging out with my 3 dogs, and playing with my nieces and nephews.

My name is Caylee Cantrell. I am originally from Nashville, TN, and am graduating from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in May 2019. I found a love for physical therapy while working during my undergrad, and am very excited to learn more!

Andrew Conner
I am from the Memphis, Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In recent years I have found joy in playing tennis, basketball, golf, and bowling. I love being active and Physical Therapy was a profession that I initially was attracted to because of the active lifestyles that most PT’s have. I have an amazing girlfriend and we have a pup together here in Memphis. Excited for what the next few years holds!

Stacey Gilkes
I attended Brooklyn College, NY where I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. I worked in the financial industry for several years as an Information Technology specialist. Several years after, I acquired my Physical Therapist Assistant license and have been working in the rehabilitation field ever since.
I have a passion for improving the quality of life for my patients through manual therapy and functional exercise. I strive to provide a meaningful therapeutic experience and believe that a positive environment is a pivotal component to recovery.
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Kirsten Gruener
Hi there! My name is Kirsten, but my friends call me Kirst. I was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and I haven’t left. I am currently finishing my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at Hofstra University on Long Island. I am very excited to be continuing to PT school, and I think this format is wonderful. I love the idea of being able to stay close to my friends and family while working towards my goal of becoming a PT. I am looking forward to starting this next chapter of my life, and cannot wait to begin meeting fellow PT students.

Caitlin Rodriguez
I am a former Environmental Engineer and commercial fisherman from Anchorage Alaska, but I couldn’t be more excited to start my new adventure as a physical therapist. I really became interested in PT after care giving for mother during her stroke recovery. I spend my spare time traveling by bicycle and exploring Alaska on my skis. My passions include volunteering for bicycle organizations in my city, working as a volunteer mechanic at our local bicycle co-op and I am also the co-founder of a youth bicycle mentor program called Anchorage GRIT. I am a husband, dad, and current physical therapist assistant. Gretna, Virginia is my hometown in which I currently reside. It is a very small town with only one stop light. My personal interests include competitive powerlifting/weightlifting as well as playing guitar. I have experience in many settings but my passion is with outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine. I am excited to expand my knowledge base as a South PT student!

My name is Allie and I am from Swansea, Massachusetts. I just graduated from the University of Massachusetts- Lowell as an Exercise Physiology major. I am looking forward to continuing my education at South College and meeting everyone! I am a pretty outgoing person and go with the flow. I enjoy working out, playing with my dog (probably my favorite thing to do), hanging out with friends, and sometimes just relaxing to a good book or movie.

My name is Jasmine, and I am so excited to begin my journey here at South College. I graduated in 2015 with a major in Biology from Coker College. It’s a small college located in South Carolina. Now, I live in Kernersville, North Carolina (another small town between Winston-Salem and Greensboro, NC) with my husband, two crazy (but lovable) dogs and our daughter. Fun facts about me: I am “slightly” obsessed with anything Disney, I love doing anything that requires me being outside and my favorite place to vacation is the beach!

I am 23 years old and am from Tuscumbia, Al. This past December, I graduated from Alabama A&M University with a degree in Biology. During my two years at A&M, I was a two year starter, and elected one of the leaders of the team. Before A&M, I attended Marion Military Institute, and again was a two year starter on the baseball team.

My name is Rachel Almonte and I am a 22 year old from Cranston, Rhode Island. I graduated from Springfield College in Massachusetts in 2018 with a Sports biology major and rehabilitation and disabilities minor. I have been working at an outpatient physical therapy office in Rhode Island for the past year.

Hello all! My name is Catherine McKee, and I am from Flower Mound, Texas, about 30 miles north of Dallas. I will be graduating from Texas A&M in May, 2019 with a degree in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Neuroscience. Following graduation, I will be moving back to Flower Mound for the duration of this program. I am the youngest of 3 sisters, and I have 5 nieces and nephews who keep my family pretty busy! I am looking forward to meeting everyone and starting this journey!

Jennifer “Jenna” Newman
Jenna Newman is a Knoxville, TN native. She earned her B.S. in Retail and Consumer Science from the University of Tennessee in 2000. She has spent the past eight years working as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in the surgery satellite pharmacy at UT Medical Center. Jenna has been a dancer since the age of 4, studying ballet and contemporary dance, as well as teaching Lindy Hop and Charleston. She is excited about the Physical Therapy field and is looking forward to continuing her education.

My name is Sydney Shaw. I graduated from Berry College in December of 2018, and I have worked as a physical therapy technician at a clinic in Rome, GA. I also got married in December to Michael Shaw. He works in college ministry, and I am so blessed to be his wife. Geriatric balance and gait rehab is my passion, and I hope to continue to explore this topic throughout my time at South College.

My name is Aaron, and I am pleased to meet you! I am someone who really enjoys getting to know new people and I like spending time being active. I deeply enjoy working out via lifting, and I like to hike and camp in all sorts of environments (national parks, local parks, etc). I like to follow many professional sports (Go Packers, Bucks and Brewers!) and also a few collegiate sports (Go Badgers!). A little fact about me is that I came from a large family of 8 and I grew up on a dairy farm. I’m looking forward to pursuing my DPT and developing as a future healthcare professional.

Samantha Porter
Samantha Porter, LMT, CMTPT was born and raised outside of St. Louis, MO. She graduated from Truman State University in 2012, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. She went on to receive her massage therapy certification in 2015. Shortly after her completion of massage therapy school, she began classes with Myopain Seminars. Ms. Porter became a Certified Manual Trigger Point Therapist in 2016 and has been a lab instructor with Myopain Seminars ever since completing her certification. When she is not working or in school, you can find her camping or playing board games! She also loves working outdoors in her garden and traveling.
