DPD: Radiology Flashcards
Describe the attenuation and appearance of structures on CT scans
Bone: High = White Soft tissue: Intermediate = Grey Lungs: Low = Black
What is spatial resolution? Which imaging modality is superior in this aspect?
Ability to tell different structures apart CXR
What is contrast resolution? Which imaging modality is superior in this aspect?
Ability to tell different densities apart CT
What is anatomical superimposition? Which imaging modality is superior in this aspect?
Organs seen on top of one another CT (as does not occur on CT)
How much higher is the dose of radiation when receiving a CT head and CT chest compared to CXR?
Head: 100x Chest: 500x
What is indicated by consolidation? What can cause this?
Replacement of air-spaces by fluid or cells without volume loss. Pneumonia Oedema Haemorrhage Aspiration
What is ground glass opacification? What can cause this?
Increased attenuation (whiter than expected) with preserved bronchial + vascular markings
What words might be used when describing consolidation?
Ill defined/ fluffy shadowing Confluent Loss of vessel pattern Air-bronchograms
What is an air bronchogram?
Air-filled bronchi (dark) being made visible by the opacification of surrounding alveoli
What indicates a pleural effusion?
Meniscus (elevation of fluid as it reaches the edge)
What pathology is seen here?
Right upper lobe
What pathology is seen here?
Cannon ball opacifications
Multiple metastases
What pathology is seen here?
What pathology is seen here?
Loosened right lung
No visible vessels
Tension Pneumothorax
What pathology is seen here?
Right pleural effusion
Visible meniscus
