Why pursue a Master of Science Computer Science?

A

Pursuing an MS in CS will allow me to deepen my understanding of the field.
My goal is to broaden my expertise and specialize in specific areas like NLP, Biomedicine, within this rapidly evolving field.
Plus, I believe that obtaining a master’s degree in the USA will give me a global perspective, and will give me an edge in this current competitive job market in India.

Why did you choose this (University)?

A

Stood out for its strong reputation in Computer Science, it has good professors and an updated curriculum keeping up with the fast evolving field of computer science. It also has professors in research areas like Natural Language Processing and Computational Biomedicine, which I am keen on exploring. Numbers, student teacher ratio, uni ranking, ranking of course, name specific modules, Text machine labs, cloud computing clubs
The faculty
Not just academically, but all rounder growth. Supportive community/extracurriculars
It’s the perfect place to nurture my academic and professional growth. Just give lots of examples.
It is located in Lowell city, which is 40 mins from Boston. It is one of the top public schools in Massachusetts. The Computer Science program offered here is excellent, and the professors are into research areas like Natural Language Processing and Computational Biomedicine which I am keen on exploring.

Why not study in India/UAE or in your own country?

A

There are excellent institutions in India, but pursuing education in the USA provides a global perspective, access to cutting-edge research, and a chance to collaborate with some of the brightest minds worldwide/more cultures.
Plus, you’re looking for more than academics. It’s about global exposure that companies like _ in India value a lot.

The objective is to merge my passion for tech with real world problem solving
Aspire to contribute to innovative projects (maybe some project you are following) and drive it
Computer Science is always evolving on multiple fronts, it’s an exciting field to be in where new innovations are happening every week. I want to be at the front driving those innovations. Specifics about what I would like to work as. Companies which I would like to work at

A

India is a rapidly evolving country. You want to be a part of this boom by bringing back knowledge and skills acquired and contributing to the technology advancements.

All my family is located in India and I want to be close to them. Companies and designation I would work as.

What do you know about the Professors in the University?

A

The professors in this university are mainly into research areas like NLP, Security, Robotics and Computational Biomedicine. I am personally keen on studying under Professor Anna Rumshisky who leads a Text Machine lab which conducts projects in the Natural Language Processing domain. I am also interested in studying under Wenjin Zhou, a professor who has published research papers in the domain of computational biology, an interdisciplinary field aimed to accelerate research in biology using machine learning and data driven techniques.

A

When did you first decide to study abroad?

A

Why - because you realized the immense value of global exposure
And then it became your goal as you progressed academically
I decided to first study abroad in my last year of engineering. Machine learning was picking up and all the good research was focused in the USA or UK.

How many unis did you apply

A

I applied to 9 universities and I got an admit in 3. I got an admit from University of Texas at Arlington, New Jersey Institute of Technology and University of Massachusetts Lowell. I chose UMass Lowell as it was offering me a Masters in Computer Science, and the other two were offering Data Science and Data mining. UMass lowell, offered me MS CS which aligns with my goal of becoming a software developer.
