Double Physics Flashcards
Method of the physics practical
- Clap the metre ruler vertically in the clamp stand as shown in the diagram
- Flatten and even out the sand in the tray so that surface of the sand is flat
3.hold the steel ball at a height of 100cm alongside the ruler
4.drop the steel ball
- Use a ruler to measure and record the width of the crater made by the steel ball
- Repeat steps 2-5 another 4 times to get 5 sets of results
- Repeat steps 2-6 dropping the steel ball from the heights of 80,60,40 and 20 cm
- Calculate the mean values
Give me one hazard and the risk and the control measure of the physics practical
Hazard: sharp sand
Risk: sand in eye when dropping ball or flattening the sand
Control measure: wear goggles and wash hands
What is an independent variable
SOMTHING you change
What is the dependent variable
SOMTHING you measure o
What is a control variable
SOMTHING you keep the same
What is the independent variable for the physics practical
Height of ball drop (cm)
What is the dependant variable in the physics practical
Width of the crater (cm)
What is the controlled variable in the physics practice
Size and mass of ball, volume of sand, shape of container
State the resolution of the metre ruler in the physics practical
0.1 cm or 1mm
What is the range of the dependent variable
Biggest take away the smallest 100-20=80
Identify two inaccuracies in the physics investigation
- Sand movement affects creator size
- Different to detect where creator is
- Using ruler accurately- human error
- Accurate/ repeatable drop height
Suggest two ways in which to improve the accuracy of the physics practical
Use a different material such as clay
Use a callipers to measure width
Use a pointer for drop height
