Dosage calc. formulas Flashcards
Total grams of solute in a solution
Grams / 100 mL=____ x total volume (mL)= Grams of solute in a solution.
You have _____ mL and need ____ mL per hour. How many hours will the IV take?
EX: Have 1000 mL, need 120 mLper hr. 1000/120= 8.3333 60x0.3= 18 =8 hrs and 18 min
Drops per minute
DF x mL (per hr)= Drops per hr / 60 min= drops per min
EX:
IV D5W 1000mL @ 100 mL per hr; DF is 10.
10 x 100= 1000 drops per hr / 60 min= 16.66= 17 drops
IVs given over 20 and 30 minutes
30 min ( multiply by 2) EX: 80 mL IVPB over 30 min. 80 x 2= 160 mL per hr. 20 min ( multiply by 3) EX: 50 mL IVPB over 20 min. 50 x 3= 150 mL per hr.
Drop per min to mL per hr
DF / drops per min= mL x 60 min= mL per hr.
EX:
-30 drops per min; DF is 20.
30 drops / 20 DF= 1.5 mL x 60 min= 90 mL per hr.
-8 drops per 30 sec; DF is 10.
8 x 2= 16 drops
16 drops / 10 DF= 1.6 mL x 60 min= 96 mL per hr.
-6 drops per sec; DF is 60.
6 x 4= 24
24 drops / 60 DF= 0.4 mL x 60 min= 24 mL per hr.
____ drops per mL= Macrodrip
15, 10 drops per mL= Macrodrip
_____ drops per mL= Microdrip
60 drops per mL= Micrpdrip
