Increased footpath erosion due to the number of visitors and visitors veering from set routes and paths.

Increase in litter especially on the beach which could result in wildlife habitats being destroyed as animals can choke on dropped litter. Increase in litter and fires especially on the beaches, eg Chesil Beach.

Q

Solutions for all those land use conflicts:

A

Military: One strategy is to put up signs alerting tourists and locals when drills and weapon testing will be carried out. This is effective as it allows tourists and hill walkers to plan their day around testing time.

Protect wildlife: One Strategie is to replant marram grass to converse vegetation and sand dunes at sites of special Scientific Interest e.g. Studland. To protect wildlife, nature reserves such as Brownsea Island have been created (National Nature Reserves). This is effective as this protection status ensures funding and maintenance is given in sensitive wildlife areas.

Tourism:One Strategie is the National Trust and Dorset Wildlife Trust buy and manage land, e.g. surface footpaths to reduce erosion. This is effective because this maintains upkeep of popular paths for future use.
