What does an off departure indicator light mean?
Train must not depart, passengers not clear/ready
What does a departure light on and steady mean?
Passenger requirements are complete and train may depart (requires signal clearance)
What do you do if the departure lights change from steady to flashing?
Driver must make an emergency stop, and remain until safe to depart and given clearance (departure light or hand signal)
What is the procedure for stopping short at a platform?
-Do not open doors
-Make announcement to passengers
-Make sure train is clear
-Sound long whistle
-Move train to the stopping mark
-Report to train controller, fill in incident report
How does a driver secure the cab when assisting a special needs passenger when being relieved at the opposite end?
Comeng - Place brake into emergency
Siemens/Xtrap - press emergency stop button
Until cab is isolated
When may you detrain passengers?
- If it is safer to be off the train
- if the train cannot be moved to a platform within 30 minutes (outside MURL)
- if the the train cannot be moved to a station within 15 minutes (inside MURL)

What is a critical fault?
A fault where the trains integrity level or safety equipment is not functioning correctly.
Trains with this fault level must not enter service, or be removed from service ASAP
What is a serious fault?
A fault where the trains integrity or safety is not affected
Trains with this level of fault may enter or remain in service, but should be removed when practical
What are the serious fault sub categories?
SERIOUS PRIORITY - higher priority to be removed from service
SERIOUS RETURN RUN - fault is in leading cab, can be driven to its current destination
SERIOUS END RUN - fault in trailing cab, can be driven from the leading cab as far as possible
What is a maintenance fault?
A fault that does not prevent the train from entering or remaining in service
What information is needed for a train Malfunction message?
TDN
Train time, destination and origin
Affected carriage number
Details of defective equipment
Any equipment isolated
What is a Fault Warning Notice?
A warning that is used when isolated/defective equipment affects the operation of vital safety equipment of the train
Where are FWN and FWNS placed?
FWN in leading and trailing cabs
FWNS on or above the speedometer
