Definition of a MINOR:
Family Violence Act 1995
- A person who is between 17 and 19 years old.
- A person who is under 17 and is, or has been married or in a civil union or de facto relationship.
Definition of CHILD:
Family Violence Act 1995
- Person who is under the age of 17 years.
- Does not include a person who is or has been married or in a civil union or in a de facto relationship (that person is a minor).

Section 4.
a) Is a PARTNER of the other person. Eg. Man and woman living together.
b) Is a FAMILY MEMBER of the other person. Eg. Mother and son living in the same house.
c) ORDINARILY SHARES A HOUSEHOLD with the other person. Eg. Flat mates.
d) Has a CLOSE PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with the other person. Eg. Boyfriend or girlfriend.
* does not include employer-employee relationships
Definition of FAMILY VIOLENCE:
Violence against a person by any other person with who that person IS, or HAS BEEN, IN AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP, or who is a FAMILY MEMBER OF THAT PERSON.
