House building programme = as housing minister MacMillan fulfilled the conservatives and Churchill pledge to build 300,000 houses a year by 1953
Education
Continuation of the tripartite system
Grammar secondary modern and technical high school set up by Butler act of 1944
Social reforms
Welfare and NHS continue to be funded ( NHS spending roughly doubled 1951 to 1962)
Acceptance of government regulation
-Clean act 1956 = set up smoke control zones
-Factory act 1959= further provisions for health , safety and welfare of employed workers
More liberal social reforms
Homicide act 1957
Wolfden report 1957
Industrial policy
Some key industries remain nationalised
= only iron and steel demised in 1953
Conciliatory attitude towards trade unions
Result
Policy is popular with electorate
Many did not feel the need to vote for Labour Party when Conservatives continuing with many labour policies
