What is the Domesday book and why is it created?
A
After the Norman invasion and conquest of England in 1066, the Domesday Book was commissioned in December 1085 by order of William The Conqueror. William needed to raise taxes to pay for his army and so a survey was set in motion to assess the wealth and and assets of his subjects throughout the land.

What happened to all the information?
A
All the information was taken to Winchester where it was put together to form the Domesday Book.

What did the Domesday Survey ask?
A
What is the manor called? How much ploughed land is there? How many smallholders are there? Is there a priest and a church? How many cows, goats, oxen, horses, pigs, beehives? How much meadow is there?
