Domain 4: Billing & Pricing Flashcards
On-Demand: Pricing Model
Offer a pay-as-you-go pricing model, where you pay for compute capacity by the hour or by the second without any upfront commitments.
On-Demand: Best Fit Scenarios
Are suitable for short-term workloads, unpredictable or variable workloads, and scenarios where users require flexibility and don’t want to commit to long-term contracts.
Reserved Instances (RI): Pricing Model
Involve making an upfront commitment to a specific instance type in a particular region for a one-year or three-year term. This commitment results in significant cost savings compared to On-Demand pricing.
Reserved Instances (RI): Best Fit Scenarios
Are ideal for stable workloads with predictable usage over time. Applications with steady state requirements or production workloads that run continuously can benefit from Reserved Instances.
Reserved Instances (RI): Flexibility
Standard RIs (most common, providing the highest discount but less flexibility), Convertible RIs (allowing changes in instance attributes), and Scheduled RIs (matching capacity reservation to a specific time period).
Spot Instances: Pricing Model
Offer the ability to bid on spare EC2 capacity, and the price fluctuates based on supply and demand. If the bid price exceeds the current Spot price, the instance runs, but it can be terminated if the Spot price exceeds the bid price.
Spot Instances: Best Scenarios
Are suitable for workloads with flexible start and end times or those that can tolerate interruptions. They are excellent for batch processing, data analysis, and fault-tolerant applications.
