Let’s Go
To get the dog to walk by your side on a loose lead.
Heel
Your dog should be directly beside you on the left
Sit
Assume sitting position
Down
to lie down
Stand
To have your dog assume a standing position
Closer
To have the dog flip their hip towards you in a down position or move closer when standing or sitting
Wait
To remain in the same position until you give another command (to be used before going through doors, eating and drinking)
Stay
Remain in the same position until you release the dog
Come
Have your dog come directly to you
Hurry up/Do your Business
Use when toileting your dog
OK
Release the dog to eat, drink or after completion of an obedience or a task
Leave it
Ignore a distraction or stop personal grooming
No
Basic correction, can incorporate with a sniff, lick, kiss, shake as a directional correction
Go Up
To have your dog place his or her front feet on an item other than yourself such as a counter, table or crate
Here Up
To have your dog place his or her front feet on your lap while sitting
Jump On
To have your dog put their entire body on an elevated surface
Turn Around
To have your dog turn their entire body around and face the opposite direction. Usually done with grooming on a table
Over
To have your dog lay on their side, used for grooming on a table or the floor
Off
To have your dog remove feet or body from an elevated surface
Mind your Business
To have your dog ignore another dog or person when not appropriate
Watch Me
To give eye contact with handler
Look
Direct your dog’s attention to the item you want retrieved
Hold It
To reinforce that your dog will hold an item in their mouth
