Gentle and sweet dogs, labrador retrievers are often used for service work. The retriever is among the most popular dog breeds in the USA.

Contrary to the name, the French bulldog was actually bred in England in the 1800s. They are distinctly different from their pug counterparts as their ears are pointing up instead of down.
While they were originally used to hunt rats, now “frenchies” are loved for being a miniature playful companion.

The golden retriever is a classic family dog and gets along well with even small children.
“Goldens” also do great with obedience training and can adapt to any living situation.
They do shed their fur heavily and require a good brushing a few times a week.

The pug is famously known for its cute smooshed-in, wrinkled face.
Pugs love to spend time with their owners and have a funny personality suited for many.
Their small size and low need for exercise makes pugs popular with apartment dwellers.

The chihuahua is a very popular dog breed in the United States and is often seen in movies.
Chihuahuas are excellent lap dogs, and their small physique and big personality makes them perfect for apartment dwellers. They do crave attention and do not like to be alone.

Most commonly known from the famous Disney movie “101 Dalmatians”, the dalmation’s spotted coat is a dead giveaway.
Dalmatians are rowdy dogs who need discipline and extensive training.

The poodle is historically a symbol of the posh, Parisian lifestyle. The breed comes in four sizes: standard, medium, miniature and toy.
Poodles are often seen as dogs of the rich and powerful, which matches their ‘spoiled’ behavior.

While the fame of the pit bull stems from a history of dog fighting, modern owners are convinced they are true family dogs when raised in a loving home.
Giving a pit bull early training and active socialization sessions turns it into a friend for life.

The husky is synonymous with pulling sleds across the Arctic snow, and it is one of the most popular breeds in the world.
However, huskies are not for the inexperienced dog owner, as they require a lot of exercise and are not easy to train.

The corgi is mostly known as the best friend of Queen Elizabeth II of England. At one point during her reign, she owned over 30 corgis.
Corgis were originally bred as cattle herding dogs, so they naturally love to run and play.

The great dane is, as its name suggests, known for its size. Great danes can grow to be 44 inches (112 cm) tall.
They are extremely sociable dogs and they love to play. Most owners deem their dane a “gentle giant”.

More commonly known as the weiner dog, the dachshund has short stubby legs and a long back, making it easily recognizable.
Fun fact: the dachshund was the inspiration behind the hot dog. They were originally called “Dachshund sausages”.

Compared to Winston Churchill, the English bulldog is tough-looking but with a heart of gold.
Bulldogs aren’t very physically active dogs, but they enjoy going out with their owners.

The collie, especially the rough collie, rose to fame after the book (and subsequent movie) “Lassie” was published.
Collies are excellent family guard dogs. A note to potential owners: a collie’s luscious coat does require some intensive grooming.

This iconic rescue dog is known for seeking out people trapped under several feet/meters of snow. In imagery, the saint bernard is almost always shown with a cask or small barrel around its neck.
The breed gets its name from the Great Saint Bernard hospice in Switzerland, where the breed originates from.

Australian shepherd
The Australian shepherd has outstanding agility and a vibrant coat of fur. While they have a heart of gold, “aussies” tend to be very wary of strangers.
Owners need to be aware that Australian shepherds need a lot of stimulation as they get bored easily.

Shih tzus are a favorite among the elderly because of their low maintenance needs and mellow energy.
They usually get along with anyone and are perfect for new dog owners.

Energetic and fun-loving dogs, the boxer is an excellent family dog who loves to be included in everything.
Boxers can be obedient, but they need early training. Be aware that they are great jumpers, so they need high fences if you plan on letting them walk around your garden.

The spaniel is a toy-sized dog that enjoys hiking, running on the beach, and dog sports.
Spaniels fit well in family life and also serve some therapeutic roles for those with special needs.
The most popular of all the spaniels is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, as depicted in the image on this card’s Question side.

Serving as the logo for the famous Greyhound buses, the Greyhound is the fastest breed in the world.
They are commonly bred for racing and love to run to cope with their high energy requirements. Owners would do well with a big backyard and an active household.

Terriers are known for their stubborn attitude and require a lot of training.
They are excellent family dogs with a lot of energy, and they require owners who are willing to spend time with them.
A Cairn terrier, as shown in the image on the Question card, belongs to the short-legged terriers type and is considered as Scotland’s earliest working dogs.

Known for its droopy ears and stocky body, the basset hound is adorably clumsy.
Puppies often trip over their own ears (which has become a YouTube meme). Basset hounds love long naps and tend to drool a lot.

Made popular through 18th century works by William Shakespeare and Alexander Pope, the beagle is a friendly companion. The comic dog Snoopy is also a beagle.
The breed lives extremely well with children and adults, even in apartment environments.

The shar-pei is easily recognizable by its distinctive wrinkle rolls and curved ears. Shar-peis are excellent family pets and very protective of their territory.
Owners need to be aware that shar-pei skin is prone to infections if not cleaned properly.
