Crest
The Upper, arched section of the neck from the occiput to the withers. May refer to the coat growth on a dogs head. (Scruff area)
Withers
The highest point of the dogs top line created by the uppermost portion of the scalpulae. The Point that the dogs height is measured. Shoulder area.
Back
The topline extending from the withers to the base of tail.
Loin
The top region of the body consisting of the seven lumbar vertebrae and attached muscle
Hip
The joint where the ball of the femur bone joins the socket of the pelvis bone. Hip issues are common in big breeds (displaysia and arthritis.)
Point of Rump
(Ischium) the furthest protruding point of the pelvis bone

Hock
(Tarsus) The joint between the lower thigh and rear pastern is the equivalent of the human ankle. The hock is important to the proper placement of pompons in artistic grooming poodle patterns. (back ankle area points out)
Metatarsus
(Rear Pastern) The area of the hind leg between the hock and the foot.

Stifle
(Knee) The joint of the hind leg where the tibia and femur bones come together. This joint is highly susceptible to injury. Great care must be taken when manipulating the rear legs in order to protect the stifle joint from injury.
Thigh
The muscular area between hip and stifle. Important area for blending shorter body coat to longer furnishings in many artistic grooming patterns.
Flank
The sides of the body between the last rib and hip. The underline of the flank is refereed to as the tuck-up
Brisket
For grooming purposes, generally refers to the underline of the dog, running the length of the sternum, from between the front legs to the end of closed ribcage.
Elbow
The joint of the front leg where humerus bone meets the ulna bone, an important point in artistic grooming where the shorter body coat will blend into the longer furnishing of the legs on some breeds.
