What is Poetic mode?
Linear continuity in favor of mood, tone, or the juxtaposition of imagery. Little to no narrative
What is expository mode?
Set up a specific point of view or argument .
Collecting and editing footage to support the argument
What it is participatory mode?
Interaction between the documentarian and the subject.
Film makers version of the truth as “the truth”
What is observational mode?
Attempt to discover the ultimate truth of their subject by acting as a fly on the wall
What is reflexive?
Focuses on the relationship between the film maker and the audience

What is performative mode?
Focus on the film makers involvement with their subject using their experience
Exploring larger subjective truths about politics, history or groups of people
