We believe that repentance towards God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit, are necessary to salvation.

What does repentance include?
Conviction of sin. Hatred of sin. Sorrow of sin. Renounce sin. Confession of sin. Desire of Forgiveness. Submission to God. Making restitution.
What is godly sorrow?
Our sins have been against god Psalm 51:4
Saving faith
Acceptance of God’s grace in Christ and confidence in a pardoning God
Saving faith includes
Recognizing the failure of sin
Desiring God
Trusting God’s power to forgive
Intentional commitment
The change effected by the HS in the heart of the penitent at the time of forgiveness
It’s instantaneous
It’s a re-creation into the image of God
It’s the restoration of the covenant
Know Titus 3:4-7
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. What are some evidence of a saved life?
Peace Joy Change in attitude and behavior Inner experience that God is for us Love for others Sensitive to sin Eager to seek forgiveness We are future oriented because past is forgiven
Legal term of Justification
Declared not guilty Deserve condemnation as sinners Receive an acquittal Sentence fulfilled at the cross Atonement is the grift of grace
Definition of justification
Is the act of God for us which changes the relationship between ourselves and him.
Romans 5:1
Biblical Justification
OT- legal justification embodied in the law, justified by keeping the law, legal justification for the innocent
NT- for the guilty, accused admits their guilt but is justified not by works but by faith
Two types of justification
Imputed righteousness- God now considers us righteous, positional relationship, instant, sees us through lense of Jesus
Imparted righteousness- God now makes us righteous, Progressive relationship, continuing transformation, possible through Holy Spirit
What is the result?
Restored relationship Free from condemnation Peace with God and access Proper perspective of relationship Humility and gratitude Hope of holiness
Justified by grace
Grace- unmerited, undeserved Dependent upon the character of God Righteous/just, holy Merciful, only offered- not automatic Demonstrated in the saving work of Jesus Sacrifice of atonement Redemption purchased
What is prevenient grace?
A stimulus to spiritual awakening, the work of the HS in our hearts before conversion Convicts of: Sin and guilt Holiness and relationship Judgment
Why is grace a gift from God?
Not by our own works
Not by our own strength
Not by our intentions
Simply by acceptance in faith
Justified through faith
Faith is personal response to the grace of God Trusting acceptance of the good news Heart believes Mouth confesses Trust brings blessings-no shame
What is Adoption?
The action of God admits those born again to the conditions and
privileges of sons and daughters- children of God
Implies change of nature- regeneration
Change or relationship- justification
How are we adopted?
Not of natural birth but by God's desire By Christ's acceptance From slave to heir Individual experience Family context- community of faith

Inheritance confirmed By the Word Heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ Every spiritual blessing in Christ By the Holy Spirit Deposit guaranteeing inheritance Wisdom hope and power
What is the Relationship with the son?

What is the Relationship with the Holy Spirit?
Lives and works in is with power
Intercedes for us
Reveals the will of the father
What is the Relationship with other believers?
As sisters and brothers-equal share
As co-heirs and citizens of the Kingdom
What is inward witness?
Confirms the state of grace
Jesus is the Christ and my personal Savior
I have forgiveness of sin
I have confidence to approach the throne of grace
Confirms adoption
Work of grace complete in me
Christ lives in me
What is outward witness?
Confirmed by a changed life Transformation- regeneration Confidence derived from faith Change in attitude and action Change in priorities and intention Progress and growth

Why do some have no assurance?
May not realize they may have it
May not have fully complied with the conditions
You may lead someone into it
