Repentance
sincere determination to forsake sin and obey God
Faith
saving faith is not just an assent to the truth of Scripture, but involves a trusting acceptance of God’s grace in Christ and confidence in a pardoning God
Passivity in Faith
resting on God’s promises
Activity in Faith
living to do God’s will
Regeneration
rebirth, new life, change effected by the Holy Spirit in the heart of the penitent at the time of forgiveness
Justification
just as if I have never sinned; declared “not guilty”; changes the relationship between ourselves and Him
Imputed Righteousness
he considers us righteous, instant, sees us through the lens of Jesus
Imparted Righteousness
he makes us righteous, continuing transformation (process), indwelling of Holy Spirit
Grace
unmerited, undeserved favor of God; getting what don’t deserve
Prevenient Grace
a stimulus to spiritual awakening, the Holy Spirit in our hearts before conversion
Adoption
official change of relationship
Assurance
knowledge of forgiveness and acceptance which God himself gives to the saved soul
Inward witness
confirms the state of grace
Outward witness
confirmed by a change of life
Different Evidences of Repentance
(1) Saving faith: recognizes failures of sin; desires God; seeks God; trusts God’s power and willingness to forgive; commitment (intentional, determined faith)
(2) Personal faith: responds to Gospel message
(3) Acting faith: resting on God’s promises; living to do God’s will
