Q

How do you explain the incarnation of the Son of God?

A

Man needed a bridge, a mediator, so God sent His son to come to earth as a man, born of a virgin to walk among us, and ultimately sacrifice Himself to pay for our sins so we could be in right-standing with God (John 3:16)

Q

What is the significance of the shed blood of Jesus and of His death on the cross?

A

It signified he was our substitute. We sinned and deserved to die, but he took our place so that we could have an opportunity to be made right with God (Romans 5:8, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us)

Why was Jesus uniquely suited to be our Savior?

He was suited to take our place because he was perfect and spotless. He was righteous and we are not
(1 Pet. 3:18, the just for the unjust).

Q

How does Jesus’ work on the cross address each dimension of human need?

A

His work on the cross affects us because it takes away the barrier between us and God and wipes away the eternal condemnation that we were facing

Q

What is your view of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, its meaning and the implications for all who believe?

A

My view of the resurrection is that it gives us an opportunity to be with the Father. Without the finished work of the cross, we are broken and separated from God, but because of it I’m able to be called a Son of God.

Q

What are the nature and significance of repentance?

***6

A

Repentance means to turn to God and away from evil. Not
something a person can bring about on their own, it is HS working on them (2 Peter 3:9, He wants all to reach repentance).

Can a person backslide, apostatize, and be lost? If so, how?

***7

A

Yes, they can. Revelations 3:5

36
Q

How does the call to holiness (sanctification) relate to New Testament believers?

***8

A

We are called to be holy by the positional holiness in Christ’s blood and practical holiness we received during new birth (1 Thes.5:23, God sanctify you completely)

37
Q

1 Thessalonians 5:23

A

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

38
Q

What does “legalism” mean?

***8

A

Overly religious, too focused on own work

39
Q

How do the Ten Commandments relate to believers
today?

***8

A

Law is our teacher, shows us we’ve sinned

40
Q

Water Baptism: Is it important to be baptized by immersion in water? Why or why not?

***9

A

Yes, Bible tells us to do so. (Go and make disciples,

BAPTIZING THEM), Jesus modeled it for us (Matt. 3)

41
Q

What takes place when a person is baptized?

***9

A

Bury our old life, raised to a new life in Christ

Col. 2:12, buried, raised in faith

42

How will you teach and practice water baptism?

***9

A

Teach that it is a public declaration of an internal decision, signifies it is a new life coming out of the water, leaving old life behind. Will encourage baptism strongly

43
Q

When a person who was baptized as an

infant comes to personal faith, is it necessary for him or her to be baptized again?

A

Would encourage, not force. We believe in CONSCIENCIOUS choice

44
Q

What is your understanding of the meaning of Jesus’ baptism in water?

A

Joining himself with us for our salvation. (we were buried with Him,
so that just as Christ was raised from the dead, we also should walk in newness of life.” (Rom. 6:4)).

45
Q

Romans 6:4 (baptism)

***9

A

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

46
Q

Is it important for a Christian congregation to take Communion together? Why or why not?

A

Yes, remembrance of Jesus, declare we receive the
benefits of atoning death, and looks forward to His coming (1 Cor. 11:26, as often as we partake, we proclaim His death until He comes)

47
Q

In your view, what separates this practice as a mere ritual from its observance as a ministry attended by God’s presence and power?

A

We are remembering and honoring the atonement, acknowledging His presence and sacrifice through the elements, allows for us to examine ourselves and let HS reveal things to us about ourselves (1 Cor. 11:28, let a man examine himself)

48
Q

How will you teach, practice, and administrate the Lord’s Supper among the people you lead?

A

Practice it often, always emphasizing what it means so that it is not forgotten or seen as something regular.

49
Q

What do you believe the Bible teaches about Pentecost as the fulfillment of “the promise” referred to by Jesus (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4, 5)?

A

Pentecost was where we received Holy Spirit

To provide spiritual power for living (Jude 20, building ourselves up & praying in HS), and bearing witness to Christ (Acts 1:8, we will receive power in HS & be his witnesses).

Allows us to receive HS at salvation (Rom. 8:9-11, because we have Christ, we have Spirit).

50
Q

What terms does the Bible use to describe this experience?

***10

A

Baptism in HS, HS came upon, outpouring of HS.

51
Q

Does the Bible teach that this event continues to be available to every Christian today?

A

Yes

1 Cor. 6:19 says we are temple of God and He dwells inside of us.

Acts 2:39(promise is to you and your children and as many as God would call)

52
Q

How will you teach this subject and lead people into Spirit baptism?

***10

A

Teach that baptism of HS and speaking in tongues is for everyone, and it is a gift that God gave us.

1 Cor. 6:19 (body is temple of HS who is in us)

John 15:26 (Spirit is our Helper sent from the Father)

53
Q

What does it mean to be “filled with the Spirit” (Eph 5:18)?

A

It means to have the spirit in you, but need to constantly be filled in our daily lives.
Putting away old things, fleshly things, and walking in submission to direction of HS by praying/seeking (John 16:13, Spirit will guide us into all truth)

54
Q

How will you help people walk in Spirit fullness?

***11

A

Prioritizing, Modeling, Praying, Teaching

55
Q

What is your definition of the gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit?

***12

A

Gifts that HS brings for our profit and edification

Gifts - 1 Cor. 12

Fruit - Galatians 5:22-23

56
Q

What is your view of spiritual gifts?

***12

A

Still in effect today, should be used to help and build the body of Christ (1 Pet. 4:10-11, each receives a gift & uses it to serve one another)

57
Q

How will you teach and administrate the operation of the manifestations of the Spirit (1Cor. 12:8-10)?

A

Teach that we all have a gift & something to contribute to the body (1 Cor. 12:7, to each is given manifestation of Spirit for common good), and that our value is not in the gift, but in the giver

58
Q

How will you encourage people to grow in the fruit of the Spirit?

A

Surrender to His lordship, walk in the life of the Spirit, the truth of the Word, and the love of God (Gal. 5:16 (walk by the spirit and you won’t gratify desires of flesh), 25(if we live by Spirit, let us keep in step with
Spirit)

59
Q

By moderation we mean walking a middle line between cold, powerless, unexpressive religion on the one hand, and wildness, hysteria, screaming,
or other unseemly manifestations on the other. Is moderation an important value to you?

***13

A

Yes, too much of anything can be a bad thing (1 Cor 6:12,

just because something is available, doesn’t mean it’ll be beneficial to you)

60
Q

In what ways do you express moderation in your ministry?

A

Being structured and prepared, yet leaving room for HS to move. We don’t chase after extremes

61
Q

Why did Jesus heal the sick and cast out demons?

***14

A

Came to save us and abolish the curse “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22) Public demonstration which led to people believing

62
Q

How do healing and deliverance relate to your

understanding of the Kingdom of God?

A

physical healing is included in the atonement of Christ: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses” (Matt. 8:17).

just as anyone may freely receive salvation, believers may also receive physical healing through believing prayer (Isa. 53:5, by His stripes we are healed)

63
Q

What is the scriptural basis for the healing ministry of the church today?

A

Life of Jesus, James 5:14 (elders praying for sick)

64
Q

How will you incorporate

both healing and deliverance in your ministry?

A

Approach it with balance. Believe, teach, and pray for healing and deliverance, but also believe that God gave us science and medicine to help us.

65
Q

What is your understanding of the promise, timing, and manner of the second coming of Jesus Christ?

***15

A

Jesus is coming back, but we don’t know the

time (Matt. 24:44, be ready, He’s coming back at time we don’t expect)

66
Q

Briefly describe your view of the end times

A

We should be weary and pay

attention, but also focus on what is in front of us

67
Q

Do you believe in the literal resurrection of believers?

A

Yes

68
Q

What is the Millennium?

A

When Christ

returns and reigns on Earth (Rev. 20:3-5)

69
Q

Do you feel it is important for a believer to identify with and join himself or herself to a local church? Why or why not?

***16

A

Yes, God created the church. It is a place for us to grow in our walk and have community with one another, sharpen each other (Hebrews 10:25, don’t neglect meeting together)

70
Q

What does it mean for the Foursquare Church to be “interdenominational in spirit”?

A

We’re a small part of the big picture of God. Strive

to be respectful and cooperative towards other churches and denominations.

71
Q

If you are a senior pastor, how will you participate in the district extension tithe, missionary giving, and ministers’ gatherings?

A

Participate wholeheartedly in all things Foursquare

72
Q

What attitude should a Christian have toward civil government?

***17

A

Submit to civil government (Rom. 13:1, all authority was put in place by God), but realize that our true allegiance is to heaven (Acts 5:29, submit to God, not men).

73
Q

If you are a senior pastor, how will you involve your congregation in civic community life?

A

Outreaches to our community, giving, etc.

74
Q

Is it appropriate for a congregation to take a formal

public position on political questions? Why or why not?

A

We should take stand against immorality, can’t endorse political candidate

75
Q

What is your view of the final judgment?

***18

A

Heaven and hell are real and eternal. Believers will go to heaven (John 14:2, Jesus went to prepare a way for us), unbelievers to hell (Matt. 13:41, gathered out of kingdom and thrown in fiery furnace). There’s a literal heaven and a literal hell.

76
Q

What is your view of heaven? What is your view of hell? What is your view of the eternity of these issues? What about those who have never heard the gospel?

A

Unless you accept Jesus, you will not go to heaven (Rom. 8:1, no condemnation for those in Christ). This is our mandate.

77
Q

What happens to a believer’s spirit when he or she dies?

A

We go to heaven

(2 Corinthians 5:8, absent with the body is to be present with the Lord, Jesus was on cross, tells robber, today you’ll be with me in paradise)

78
Q

What is your view of the Great Commission?

***21

A

Most important jobs we have as followers of Jesus (Mark 16:15, go and preach the gospel to every creature, Matthew 28:19, go and make disciples).

79
Q

What are your convictions about the need to spread the Gospel? What is your view of the spiritual condition of an individual without Jesus Christ?

A

People are lost and in need of a savior. We’re all born with a sinful nature only cleaned by the blood of Jesus

80
Q

Describe how you might extend an evangelistic invitation in a public service

A

Talk about our needs as humans, and how God provided a solution by sending His son to make a way for us to Him. Give opportunity for people to take action

81
Q

What do you believe the Bible teaches about tithes and offerings?

***22

A

We give from a heart of gratitude, not law or for
blessings (Malachi 3:10, bring tithes into storehouse, Luke 11:42, “You tithe mint and rue……”, Matthew 23:23, Jesus talks about tithing to Pharisees)

82
Q

Malachi 3:10 (bring tithe to storehouse)

A

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need

83
Q

How do these principles apply today?

A

Hebrews 7:4-9, what is less is the law and what is greater is grace, uses example of them giving to mortal men, and now giving to God.

84
Q

What is your personal practice concerning

tithes and offerings?

A

Giving 10 percent

85
Q

Do you believe the principle of tithing can apply to a church as well as to an individual?

A

Do you believe the principle of tithing can apply to a church as well as to an individual? Yes, although no scriptural precedent

86
Q

Will the church you pastor tithe to our denomination?

A

Yes
