Stages of semi-conservative DNA replication
A
- DNA helicase breaks apart the 2 parent strands
- The DNA strands move apart and act as template strands
- Free nucleotides in the nucleoplasm line up with their complimentary base pair
- Hydrogen bonds reform
- DNA polymerase catalyses the polymerisation of the polynucleotide chain (polydiester bonds)
- Two new DNA molecules are formed, each with half of the original parental DNA
