DNA Replication Flashcards
1
Q
Where does DNA replication take place?
A
In the nucleus as DNA is too big to leave the nuclear pores
2
Q
Name the 4 steps of DNA replication
A
Replication fork formation
Initiation
Polymerase elongation
Termination
3
Q
Describe the 3 steps of RFF
A
- DNA replication starts at the origin
- Initiator proteins unzip double helix
- DNA helicase breaks hydrogen bonds and unzips birdirectionally
4
Q
Describe the 4 stages of initiation.
A
- 1 strand acts as a template
- Short RNA primer attaches so that DNA polymerase can bind at 3’ end
- DNA polymerase attaches at 3’ end and adds nucleotides
- Forms phosphodiester bonds
