DNA replication Flashcards
What type of conservative replication is DNA?
Semi conservative replication (out of conservative and dispersive)
What is the semi-conservative model?
A model which proposes that in every DNA replication, half of a DNA template is in new daughter cells (i.e. one side of the DNA strand carries on to the new generation).
When does DNA replication occur (i.e. what phase)?
Occurs during S phase of interphase (in cell cycle). This is for preparation for meiosis and mitosis.
What happens in the first step in DNA replication?
Unwind DNA
- Helicase Enzyme unwinds part of DNA helix (enzyme is specific to DNA)
