DNA notes Flashcards
What nitrogen bases are pyrimidines?
Thymine and Cytosine
What nitrogen bases are purines?
Adenine and Guanine
What is the “Base-Pair-Rule”?
Adenine bonds with thymine, Guanine bonds with cytosine
What are bases comprised of?
Deoxyribose sugar and phosphate
What is RNA?
Smaller nucleic acids sent by the nucleus to direct the behavior of a cell and it’s organelles.
What is messenger RNA (mRNA)
A type of RNA sent by the nucleus to direct ribosomes into creating proteins.
What does RNA have instead of Thymine?
Uracil.
What is DNA replication?
A process in which DNA tears strands and the single strand becomes DNA for a new cell.
Why is the nucleus the control center of the cell?
Directs the cell behavior
