DNA, Genes And Chromosones Flashcards
Who were the three scientists to discover DNA?
Francis crick, James watson and Rosalind Franklin.
What does DNA stand for?
Deoxyribonucleic acid
What is DNA composed of?
It is composed of two polynucleotide chains containing genetic information. There are pairs that are made up of the four nitrogenous gases and with that it makes a helix shape.
What are the four nitrogenous gases?
Thymine, Guanine, Cytosine and Adenine
When was DNA discovered?
1953
What are short sections of DNA called and waht do they carry?
Genes. They carry the instruction (the code) for a charchteristic
How many chromosones are in each normal person?
46
How many pairs of chromosones are there
23
How many individual chromosone come from your parents
23 father, 23 mother.
What are the two ways of reproduction?
Sexually (animals) asexually (plants)
How does sexual reproduction work?
The sperm from a man fusing with the egg from a woman
How does asexual reproduction work?
Each offspring will be identical to the parent as it can reproduce on its own. Example: A Spider Plant reproduces on its own.
