DNA as the genetic material 2 Flashcards
What are the different types of mutants?
Conditional mutants - can only be expressed under restrictive conditions, not permissive conditions e.g. temperature sensitive mutants
Morphological mutants - alter the physical appearance of an organism e.g. curly wing in drospophila
Lethal mutants - lead to the death of the organism
Biochemical mutants - cause the loss or change of a biochemical function
What are the similarities and differences between eukaryotic DNA replication and prokaryotic DNA replication (e.g. e. coli)
Similarities: -leading and lagging strands, bi directional, proof reading and primers
Differences: eukaryotes have much larger genomes, they have multiple replication sites and a slower rate of DNA synthesis.
