DNA Flashcards
Where are the chromosomes found?
In the nuclei of your cell
What is a gene?
Genes are sections of DNA molecules containing instructions for specific proteins that are used in your body.
What do chromosomes contain?
Your genetic information
What are chromosomes made out of?
DNA
What shape is the DNA molecule?
Double helix
What are the four bases found in DNA?
Adenine (A) thymine (T) cytosine (C) guanine (G)
A DNA molecule is made up of two strands. How are they joined together?
Weak hydrogen bonds between the base pairs
Why does adenine always bond with thyme and never cytosine?
Because they are complementary (matching) shapes.
Why is DNA so important
DNA contains the information needed to form the proteins for body cells.
Define base
There are four bases in DNA, (A) (T) (C) (G)
