DNA Flashcards
HELICASE?
untwists the DNA helix to give single stranded DNA, but increases foiling ahead of the replication fork
Topoisomerase?
It fixes the over coiling
Single stranded binding protein?
stabilises the unwound single stranded template.
DNA Primase?
Synthesises RNA at 5’ end, using parental DNA as a template.
DNA polymerase?
catalyses DNA synthesis
DNA Ligase?
Joins Okazaki fragments on the lagging strand.
DNA polymerase III
Synthesises new dna using template strand by adding nucleotides to RNA primer or existing DNA strand.
DNA polymerase I
Removes RNA nucleotides from 5’ end and replaces them with DNA nucleotides.
What is transcription?
When the cell produces an intermediate molecule called mRNA to get to gene to protein.
What is translation.
When DNA uses mRNA to produce protein.
What does DNA contain?
2 sugar phosphate backbones, nitrogenous bases held together by hydrogen bonds.
What are PYRMIDINES?
Cytosine
Uracil
Thymine
What are PURINES?
Adenine
Guanine
What would happen if you attached a purine to a purine?
Too wide man.
