Glipizide is an oral hypoglycemic agent in the
Second-generation sulfonylurea drug class.
Indication-

30 minutes post-administration with the duration of action lasting for about 12 to 24 hours affect.
Instructions:
Avoid excessive or chronic alcohol consumption.
The risk of hypoglycemia is increased when alcohol is ingested.
Take before a meal.
Take 30-60 minutes before breakfast.
Contraindications:
- look at renal, kidney function
-G6PD deficiency
-avoid sun exposure
-malnutrion
-hypersensivity to tartrazine
Glucagon (GlucaGen)
a polypeptide hormone- the anti-hypoglycemic class and is crucial in managing various medical conditions.
-Given to patients who are hypoglycemic
-Off label is beta blocker overdose, calcium channel blocker overdose
Caution- adrenal insufficiency
Used for- dx use for diabetes, cardiac dx
Glyburide (Diabeta)
class= sulfonylureas.
-Oral DM med to treat type II DM
These drugs act by closing ATP-sensitive potassium channels on pancreatic beta cells.
Contraindications:
Creatinine level <60
-do not give in type I DM
-G6PD deficiency
- check kidney, renal, liver function
Insulin glargine (Lantus)
Long acting >24 hours
Can give to DM type I
Contraindication- hypokalemia (low K+)
**Can be used in continuous SC infusion pump use
** Can use during pregnancy drug of choice for DM use during pregnancy
***No known risk of fetal harm
