DLA Piper Flashcards
Why do you want to work for DLA?
The strong vision and values of the firm are the major drawing factors. I see myself in these values and believe I can fit into the team here.
The fact that DLA Piper is a global law firm with the intention to grow is something that I would love to be a part of. In addition the opportunity to be involved in a variety of quality work and work with the established professionals is something that appeals to me.
From working in business and commercial environments, I believe I understand what is required and intend to use this to contribute to the firm’s successes and long term goals.
Tell me about yourself
I have successfully completed the LPC and my most recent roles were at Hudson eDiscovery and Pinsent Masons in the technology, media and telecommunications department. I believe this has given me the opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge.
My strengths are communication, teamwork and Organisation. I also like to take on new challenges and learn new things.
I intend to use what I have gathered from my experiences at DLA Piper to assist the team if given the opportunity
What other people have said about me?
ADR - ambitious, driven and reliable
Others could be loyal, quick thinking and Witty
What can you bring to the firm/why should we hire you?
I can bring my dedication and drive to succeed. I will always get the job done and ensure that it is to the best of my ability.
Having assisted partners, associates, solicitors and trainers - I know what is required and believe I can carry the skills and knowledge into this role whilst developing alongside experienced professionals.
What are your strengths?
Teamwork
Communication/interpersonal skills
Organisation/time management
Teamwork?
Playing in a football team and being captain of another has allowed me to strengthen my interpersonal and teamwork skills. Working for each other is key and that is what I do with my team. I also worked in a small team at Pinsent masons where is anyone required help then we would assist each other to complete the task
Communication?
At my part time role, I hold a supervisory position where I manage/supervise between 6-8 cashiers at any given time. The role involves having to allocate tasks to team members and pragmatically dealing with issues as they occur.
This has developed my communication and time management skills. As well as managing the team, I also have to deal with customers and any issues that they may have.
Time management?
Whilst at Pinsent masons, I had to manage a constant work stream, this ranged from working on ongoing tasks to dealing with urgent requests such as requests for information from counsel to the creation of a bundle for a meeting.
Furthermore I have held my part time job since 2006 whilst studying and working in the legal sector. This has shown that I can manage multiple demands at any given time and still perform accordingly.
Weaknesses?
I used to spend more time than necessary on tasks, but I’ve learned to be more confident in my decisions and I work more efficiently.
So now rather than checking things over and over, I will believe in my ability when working on the task rather than constantly worrying about it
Weaknesses? (1)
I have always gone further than required to try and help people.
As I do not want to disappoint or let them down.
This is not to say that I won’t help anyone, but I have learned how to better recognise and prioritise tasks with deadlines in mind without having an impact on other tasks.
(Use example of staying till 12.30pm
How do you manage your workloads?
I tend to use to do lists.
I organise my workload and work through it systematically as required but at the same time I aim to prioritise accordingly when required such as in urgent situations.
Have you ever been in a position where you had to analyse a lot of documents?
At Pinsent masons, I use to access a document management system containing over 9 million documents and used these to prepare bundles for a litigation case.
Also at Field Fisher dealing with numerous files containing information
And Hudson, where documents required redaction ranging from 50-200 pages.
How do you motivate yourself?
I like challenging myself; I have always been fond of achieving goals and exceeding targets, especially if I can achieve those faster and more efficiently than anyone expected.
If you was having a dinner party, who would you invite dead or alive?
Ba
Greg Plitt
Sir Alex Ferguson
Cristiano ronaldo
Kevin Hart
What are your salary requirements?
My previous salary was £25,000, but my main focus isn’t the salary, it’s about finding the right job where I can have a direct impact, learn and be part of a team.
