Explain the significance of the synagogue.
Most people pray and worship their gods in the synagogue.
Who was Moses and what special task did God give him?
Moses was an Israelite prophet and God told him to rescue the Israelites from the Egyptians.
What is the difference between monotheism and polytheism?
Monotheism is the worship of one god and polytheism is the worship of multiple gods.
Name the Books of the Bible written by King David and describe what they are about.
Psalms, and they are about Sacred Songs.
What two important things did King Cyrus II allow the Jews to do?
Practice their beliefs freely, and religion.
Where was Goliath from, what was his role against Israel, and what happened to him?
Goliath was a Philistine giant, his role against Israel was to demolish people, instead of doing that he got killed by David.
Who were the Philistines, where did they come from, and why did the Israelites fear them?
Philistines were the Sea People, they came from the sea, and they were very powerful.
What is the Torah and how does it influence Jewish religion?
The Torah is part of the Hebrew Bible, it’s the law, and it influences Jewish religion because that is how they practiced their beliefs.
Explain the type of people the Assyrians were.
Some were wealthy, some were powerful, some were poor, some were monotheistic, and some were polytheistic.
List and study the ten plagues of Egypt.
The waters turned into blood, frogs invaded Egypt, lice infected peoples bodies, flies also invaded Egypt, their livestock died, they had boils all over themselves that they couldn’t heal, hail, locusts took their crops, darkness surrounded Egypt, and the death of first-born children.
Who was the leader of the 12 tribes of Israel?
Joshua was the leader of the 12 tribes.
Describe the four Jewish groups: Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, and Zealots.
Pharisees - one of the largest sects in Israel during the two centuries prior to the destruction of the Second temple in the year 70 C.E.
Sadducees - Were often accused of being boorish and rude at times in their pursuit of wealth and higher social standing.
Essenes - Jewish religious sect, which, like the Pharisees and Sadducees, flourished during the last two centuries B.C.E. And up to the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 C.E.
Zealots - The Zealot must act on behalf of God or the Lord will punish the whole nation (what they thing ). Had much passion for liberty.
List the Ten Commandments and describe their main purpose.
“I am the LORD thy God.” He is the only God.
“No other gods before me.” Don’t worship other gods.
“No graven images or likenesses.” Don’t share images of God not being the only God on Earth (I think)
“Do not take the LORD’s name in vain.” Don’t use Gods name as a bad word.
“Remember the Sabbath day.” Go to church, worship God on Sundays.
“Honor thy father and thy mother.” Don’t disobey your parents/guardians.
“Thou shalt not kill.” Don’t murder.
“Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Don’t have kids when you are not married to the person.
