Divisions of the nervous system Flashcards
1) Human Nervous System- outline function
Whole body of nerve cells, collects information from world, processes it and directs organs and muscles via electro chemical messages.
2) Central Nervous System- outline function
Complex processing- split into two 3) brain and 4) spinal cord
3) Brain- outline function
For all conscious and most unconscious processing
4) Spinal cord- outline function
Receives and transmits information and some reflex processing
5) Peripheral Nervous System- outline function
Body wide network of messenger neurones, sensory neurones take information to CNS and motor neurones take information away from CNS
6) Autonomic Nervous System- outline function
A part of the PNS that controls actions of internal glands, it is an involuntary system
7) Somatic Nervous System- outline function
Part of the PNS that controls skeletal muscles, it is a voluntary system
8) Sympathetic System- outline function
Part of ANS, increases bodily activities used in fight or flight, for example increased heart rate
9) Parasympathetic System- outline function
Part of ANS, decreases bodily activities for rest and digest, for example decreased heart rate
