A

Implies inflammation, when faeces obstruct the neck of the diverticulum.

Aetiology

A

Related to low fibre diet in western countries.

Leading to ⬆️ intracolonic pressure , vausing herniation of mucosa at sites of weakness.

Cliniccal Features

A

Asx in 90%. Discovered incidentally- barium enema or colonoscopy.
Sx- due to bleeding or acute diverticulitis. (LIF pain, fever, N+V, )

Complications

A
Abscess formation, 
Perforation
Haemorrhage
Fistula formation
Intestinal obstruction 

Acute Diverticulitis- dx by CT Abdo or USS in some.

Acute attacks tx w/ antibiotcs

Ciprofloxacin + metronidiazole
