Diversity (Term 1) + Diversity of fungi Flashcards
How to classify things
Look for similarities and differences
Characteristics that living things have which non living things dont hv
- need air, water and food to stay alive
- can grow
- can respond to changes around them
- can reproduce
- move by themselves
- die
Special Mammals Characteristics
- Have hair
- Give birth to young alive
- produce milk for young
Fish observable characteristics
- have gills, fins, tails, scales
other observable characteristics of mammals
- have limbs (arms, legs, flippers)
Outer covering of mammals

Why are plants considered living things
Plants are living things as they need air, water and food to stay alive. They can grow, respond to changes around them and reproduce
how are plants different from other living things
- plants make their own food while other living things do not make their own food
How can plants be classified
- (for flowering plants) with fruits with one seed or with fruits with more than one seed
- leaf edges
- flowering plants and non-flowering plants
what diff between flowering plants and non -flowering plants
- flowering plants reproduce by seeds while non- flowering plants reproduce by spores
- flowering plants are able to bear fruits and flowers when conditions are right but non -flowering plants cannot bear fruits and flowers
Why are plants so important
Plants make their own food. All animals and humans depend on plants for food. Thus, it is impt to conserve and maintain the diversity of plants
How are fungi classified
- some fungi are microorganism, while some are large enough to be seen without a microscope
how are bacteria classified
all bacteria are microorganisms
How are fungi and bacteria similar
they do not make their own food. They feed on other living things, which may be dead or alive
Fungi special characteristics (beside feeding on other living things)
- cannot move from place to place on their own
- reproduce by producing spores which are tiny and light
is mould a fungi or bacteria
fungi
What do fungi need to grow (if dont hv, will die)
air, food and water
What can help fungi grow faster
more moisture
warmer surroundings
