What are values?
→ Concepts or beliefs that guide how we make decisions about and evaluations of behaviors and events.
→ Are associated with cultures, age groups, professional groups, etc.

Ethnocentrism
Ethnocentrism is defined as the exaggerated tendency to think the characteristics of one’s own group or race are superior to those of other groups or races
Everyone possesses a degree of ethnocentrism (it is inherent in cultural values), but it must be curbed to work effectively with people from other groups or races

Stages of moral development
Preconventional: Following rules only when its in your immediate interest, abiding by rules to avoid punishment
Conventional: Following rules to which you have agreed, living up to the expectations of those close to you
Principled: Following self chosen ethical principles even if they violate the law
Questions to see if a decision is ethical (diagram)
- Is the decision motivated by self-serving interests?
- Does the decision respect the rights of the individuals affected?
- Is the decision fair and equitable?
