Diversity Flashcards
Biodiversity
Variability among living organisms from all sources.
Quadrat
A 1m x 1m square frame. The standard measuring tool for ecologists.
Percentage Cover
An estimate of the percentage of a quadrat that a species is occupying.
Species Richness
The number of species present in an ecosystem.
Relative Species Abundance
How many of each species are present.
Percentage Frequency
The proportion of quadrats that contained a particular species.
Diversity Indices
Considers the size of the ecosystem, so spatial scales have less of an impact on results.
Spatial Scales
The spatial scale of an ecosystem refers to how large of an area it covers.
Temporal Scales
Temporal scales of an ecosystem refers to time.
