Q

Cameron Locker Room Talk

A

Gossip Study- Men gossip as much as women but its labelled as ‘locker room talk’

-No difference in how we gossip, it’s just warped perceptions and noticing it more in women due to societies standards

Gossip/ Locker room talk share the same features e.g.
-Keep members of social groups in the know
-Establishing a bond with a group

Q

Butler Gender Performativity

A

-Gender is a ritual/ performance accepted by society and is learned by seeing others do it

-Differentiates between sex and gender identity (Gender identity is learned)

-Heteronormative behaviours are reinforced through media/ society e.g. gendered clothes

-All of this upholds patriarchy due to way women are constructed to be

She would refute saying such as
‘Man up’
‘Be more ladylike’

Q

Cook-Gumprez

A

Investigated girls ‘playing house’ as mothers with babies

They were ‘boiling the babies’ as it had not yet been learned that being a ‘good mother’ is being a good woman, which is a heteronormative behaviour reinforced by society

This suggests gender specific motherly roles are learned by children and reinforces gendered behaviour
