Diuresis Flashcards
Water diuresis
Excretion of large volume of water without loss of excess of solute.
Capacity of kidney tubule impaired.
ADH.
Diabetes insipidus
Demonstrated by drinking large amt of water, polyuria in 15-40 minutes
Osmotic diuresis
Increased conc of osmotically active particles in tubular fluid increases excretion of water.
Diabetes mellitus.
Demonstrated by mannitol. Mannitol filtered in kidney but not reabsorbed so produces osmotic diuresis.
Diuretics
Substances that promote diuresis.
To decrease ECF.
Loop, aldosterone, thiazide, carbonic anhydrase, xanthines, osmotically active substances, ethanol
Loop diuretics
Furosemide
Inhibits Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter
Aldosterone antagonists
Spironolactone
Inhibits action of aldosterone, and Na-K exchange causing natriuresis and diuresis.
Thiazide
Chlorothiazide.
Distal tubule, inhibits nacl cotransporter
